What is Phi Delta Chi?

Leaders in Pharmacy, Brothers for Life - Edited.png

Phi Delta Chi was founded on November 2nd 1883 at the University of Michigan with the original premise that "Both students and faculty recognized that such an organization would bring students of pharmacy together for the discussion of scientific questions pertaining to pharmacy and its sister sciences."

We offer experiences aimed at supporting Brothers through their academic career and beyond.

PDC also has 103 active chapters all following the same values that our original founders intended.

Our Iota chapter was founded at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1905 and is currently the largest fraternity at UMSOP.

Brotherhood

Pharmacy school cannot be done alone! We support each other and create lifelong friendships. We are Brothers for LIFE! These friendships remain well after graduating due to the deep bonds we forge with one another based on trust, responsiveness, & mentorship. Our Brothers help one another throughout pharmacy school and after because we believe that Each Needs the Help of the Other.

Leadership

We create opportunities for our Brothers to advance their leadership. Our dedication in advancing student pharmacists can be seen locally and nationally.

In 1996, PDC created Pharmacy Leadership & Education Institute (PLEI) to push our values forward through charitable and educational routes. Phi Delta Chi Brothers were also amongst the original members of Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS).

In Iota, you will see PDC Brothers in leadership positions throughout all of UMSOP's student organizations and many Brothers inducted into PLS annually.

Service

Volunteerism, philanthropy and patient-centered care are at the core of our mission. We have long-time relationships with organizations that give our Brothers opportunities to give back to the community. Since 1995, Phi Delta Chi has had a strong relationship with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and we are committed in meeting their mission that "no child should die in the dawn of life." Currently, PDC has raised over $1 million for St. Jude's.

Locally, the Iota chapter gives back to the local Baltimore community by partnering up with Hope Lodge, Paul's Place, & the Ronald McDonald House.

Scholarship

Phi Dex Brothers practice scholastic excellence in and outside academics. Professional development and education is our fraternity's foundation for success. PDC Brothers were instrumental in the establishment of Rho Chi, the national scholastic honor society of pharmacy. Brothers were among the original executive board of Rho Chi, holding the positions of President, Vice President, and Secretary.

At Iota, we have many Brothers who excel academically and many Brothers are inducted into Rho Chi each year.
